The Writer’s World

Writing isn’t just something one does, it’s a frame of mind. It’s a way of looking at the world. It’s a constant quest for ideas, beauty and inspiration. At least that’s how it is for me. It gives me a sense of purpose. I feel that I keep my eyes open wide for the slightest hint of inspiration. Instead of just looking at a thing and perhaps appreciating its beauty, I find myself thinking of what it reminds me of, where it takes me, what feeling and emotions it evokes. It just makes life so much more interesting. Richer.
Though it can be frustrating at times. There are times when a scene awaken’s a hint of inspiration in me. I know that it stirred something, but it’s gone before I can grasp it. It leaves a gnawing sense of loss as I try to remember what the split second feeling was. Then there are other times I see a thing and feel like I should be getting something from it, but I’m not. But there will always be frustration in life and so this does not really bother me. The quest for that idea that will become a story, or a part of a story is worth it. It’s an exciting journey.

Christmas Gifts

I’ve never been very good at Christmas gifts, I find it such a pain to try to find the perfect gift. So this year I’m trying to make some. That way the recipients of my gifts will have to appreciate them whether they’re perfect or not 😉 This is proving a bit challenging though, because I’m not particularly crafty, at least I haven’t had much experience at it. But my recent discovery of Pinterest is making life a whole lot easier. They have tons of ideas and some of them really simple, and for me simple is golden!

So today I have a list of things I’ll need and I’m going to hit the thrift stores and see what treasures the Island has for me, wish me luck.

How Is a Year of Writing Going?

After my last post you’re probably wondering how my year of writing is going.

Not as badly as I feared and not as good as I hoped. I haven’t gotten much story writing done the last few days, but I did write my “Hugo” review and also a few random pieces for myself. I’m trying to remind myself that my writing doesn’t always have to be productive, sometimes writing just for the sake of writing is alright.

Though I would like to make some headway with my stories. I really want to polish up my Alternate Reality, Victorian, Action Adventure, Comedy, Steampunkish novel. I’d also like to begin developing a short story I wrote a little while ago. It was quite brilliant! Thus I’m terrified to start expanding for fear I’ll ruin it.

So I’ve missed a few days of writing, but on the whole I’m not doing too bad.

A Year of Writing

NaNoWriMo is over, now what?

It’s hard after NaNo. You’ve developed these great writing habits, yet almost killed yourself trying to sustain them through the month. Now it’s December and you just want to rest and never write again (at least not for a few days). Yet, at least for me, if I do that, then I break my good habits and don’t get any writing done.

I tell myself I’m going to take a couple days off and then keep up with my good writing habits. Yet then I don’t and soon I’m back to the same unmotived state I was at before NaNo.

This year I’m determined to make it different. I’m not taking a break! Oh I’m done with my story, I don’t want to look at it again for a few week at least, if ever again. But I’m trying to focus on editing last years story and just writing. Writing blogs, writing journal entries (is there a difference?) working on short stories and developing longer ones.

I’m tired of only really focusing on my writing in Nov. Just think of everything I could get done if I wrote everyday, even if it’s only a few hundred words. And think how much better I’ll be for next years NaNo.

So this is my goal, to use NaNo as my launching pad to a year of writing. Wish me luck.
